GREAT SALTDOGS PITCHING CAPS ROAD TRIP WITH WIN
WICHITA, Kan. — Three Saltdogs hurlers combined to hold the potent Wichita offense to just one run as Lincoln downed the Wingnuts 6-1 in front of 3,627 fans at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium Saturday night.
Alex Maestri (4-5) pitched six-plus innings, allowing a run on seven hits to earn the victory.
Nick Schreiber inherited the bases loaded with no outs in the seventh and induced a ground-ball double play and another ground out to minimize the damage. Schreiber worked two hitless innings.
Gavin Dickey laced a two-run triple to right center field in the top of the third inning. Phil Hawke added a two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning. The first five runs Lincoln scored were unearned due to two Wichita fielding errors.
Ryan Hinson (6-4) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs – no earned – on six hits to suffer the loss.
Blake Gailen and Jorge Cortes each recorded two-hit nights as the Saltdogs wrapped up their nine-day road trip with a 5-2 record.
