DOUGLAS TIES LEAGUE RECORD, GIVES ‘HOGS WALK-OFF WIN

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — The AirHogs tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and went on to defeat the Saltdogs 4-3 in 11 innings at QuikTrip Park Sunday night.

With two outs and runners on first and second base in the bottom of the 11th, Stephen Douglas hit a ground ball through the middle to score David Thomas from second base, earning Grand Prairie the rubber match victory in walk-off fashion.

Pinch-hitter Tyler Henley drew a bases-loaded walk off Saltdogs closer PJ Zocchi to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth. It was the first run Zocchi had allowed in a save situation all season.

In the sixth inning Douglas hustled out an infield single to extend his hit streak to 30 games, matching the American Association record set by Pat O’Sullivan (Forth Worth Cats) in 2009.

Jon Hunton (6-1) pitched two hitless innings in relief to earn the victory. Jordan Stern (1-2) tossed 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run on two hits to suffer the loss.

Lincoln committed two errors, one of which led to an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth.

Curt Smith went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Brandon Jones went 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Alex Maestri pitched six solid innings, allowing just one earned on seven hits but did not factor into the decision.

The Saltdogs head to La Grave Field Monday night at 7:05 p.m. for game one of a three-game series against the Fort Worth Cats. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
