BITE/HEAT WIN THEIR OPENING GAME

The visitors opened Round Six of Australian Baseball League action with Friday night wins. The Heat knocked off the Brisbane Bandits by a 3-2 final at RNA Showgrounds, and Adelaide took down the Canberra “UberGlobal” Cavalry 4-1 at Narrabundah Ballpark in Canberra.

‘Alcohol Think Again’ Perth Heat at Brisbane Bandits (Game 1)

Aaron Baker and Brenden Webb each hit solo home runs, Daniel Schmidt pitched effectively into the sixth inning, and the ‘Alcohol Think Again’ Perth Heat won their second straight game after three straight losses, 3-2 over the Brisbane Bandits at RNA Showgrounds.

After their 11-0 start cooled considerably with three losses in four games to Canberra in Round Five, Perth got out of the gate quickly in their Round Six opener against the Bandits. The Heat got an RBI single from Alex Burg in the first followed by Baker’s two-out homer in the second and Webb’s leadoff shot in the third.

The early offence proved enough for Perth pitching. Schmidt (5.2 IP/0 ER) allowed a pair of unearned runs in the fifth, but Brisbane were unable to draw even against him and reliever Cameron Lamb who finished the night with three and one-third hitless innings of his own.

Schmidt and Lamb limited the Bandits to just three hits on the night. Brisbane starter Alex Maestri (6.1 IP/3 ER) struck out nine over his night but took the defeat.

The Heat and Bandits continue their four-game series Friday night in Brisbane with first pitch for game two scheduled for 7pm.
